You never forget your first time.
Noah had planned out perfectly how he was going to act when he saw Cam again, but Noah hadn't planned on how he was going to act the day after a night that played out the same way as the one six years ago. Even if it was a night when the sex was mind-blowingly better than he remembered.
So he didn't rush to get to the training early, and still ended up in the front row. Cameron was wearing glasses. The gold earpieces disappeared almost unnoticed into his curls and the rimless lenses magnified the green of his eyes. How did he look so fucking sexy at seven forty-five in the morning? Noah felt like he'd been dragged through a hedge backward—and was sure he looked like it, too.
Cam didn't smile when he saw him, just glanced up for a minute and then went back to leafing through the binder on the podium. There were almost always minute changes to the CPR course every year—at least the way Havers Safety wanted it administered. Noah focused his attention because there was sure to be some small detail on the test designed to trip people up. The morning went faster than he'd thought it would. When he and Cam finally met over a resuscitation dummy, Noah said, “I didn't know you wore glasses.”
“Couldn't get my contacts in this morning.” Cam's tone suggested that it was somehow Noah's fault. “Head's not back far enough.” Cam looked down at the dummy, and Noah repositioned the head.
Even with the variations from year to year, Noah could do this, was good at this. But with Cam's implacable stare fixed on him, his confidence swirled and drained away as if someone had pulled a plug out from underneath him. Instructor trainers never usually said anything, unless you were doing something wrong, just gave you updates on the “victim's” condition. But Noah's breathing and counting sounded more awkward and loud than they ever had in the seven years he'd been doing this, ringing in the silence before Cam moved on to check out the next student.
Noah could hear Cam's voice get warmer and more encouraging as he worked with the next pair.
The guy Noah had been sharing the dummy with breathed an exaggerated sigh of relief. “Jeez, what you do to piss him off? I've never seen anyone with Havers act like that.”
Since Noah doubted “Let him fuck me” was really an appropriate response, he shrugged.
The written test was the last thing before the lunch break, and Noah was the first one done. He went up and put the paper on the table at the front of the room, and Cam never even looked up. Fuck that. Cam didn't get to act like nothing had happened again. And he sure as hell didn't get to act like he didn't even know who Noah was.
Noah ate a sandwich in his truck, watching to see if Cam left the building before the pool session. When he hadn't come out by twenty after twelve, Noah went back inside and changed into his trunks. Cam disappeared behind a door just as Noah got onto the pool deck. Noah glanced down at his bruised knuckles and decided not to punch the tiles. The deck was dry, perfect for stalking over and yanking open the door.
Cam turned around in surprise, two test tubes in his hands. The pumps swished and thumped alongside them. Once again, Noah had made an absolute ass of himself. Cam hadn't come in here to avoid him, he was only testing the water.
Noah leaned against the door. “Since when do you work for the college?”
“I told the kid to go get some lunch. I can guard till he gets back for the class.” Cam held the tubes up to the light and marked the readings on the clipboard. He dumped out the test tubes and closed up the kit before turning back to Noah. The light reflected off his glasses, making it harder than ever to read his expression.
Noah shoved his bangs back from his forehead.
“What happened to your knuckles?”
Ah shit. Noah stared down at the dark bruises. He'd been able to hide them during CPR since he'd been wearing gloves. “Bar fight.” He raised his eyes and grinned.
Cam's brow furrowed, and for a second Noah thought Cam was actually going to believe that story.
“I wasn't sleepy after all,” he added.
Cam's lips parted as he started to smile. God, he was even sexier in those glasses. This was Noah's Cam, the Cam he was when they were alone. The Cam who looked at Noah like Cam wanted him for breakfast, lunch and supper.
Noah held up his bruised hand. “Want to kiss it and make it better?”
“Asshole. No rewards for being self-abusive.” Cam caught Noah's arm as he pushed it forward. Cam's thumb brushed across the inside of Noah's wrist, the pressure on his pulse making his blood pump faster. “Maybe later.”
“What's wrong with now?”
Cam twisted their wrists to look at his dive watch. “Class starts in twenty-five minutes.”
Noah freed his arm and grabbed Cam's hips to pull him tight. “And you think it's going to take that long? That's cute, Cam.”
With a tight grip on Noah's shoulders, Cam shoved Noah into the door. Their breath brushed each other's lips as Noah shifted his grip on Cam's hips until the swell of Cam's dick pressed against his own.
